Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain electronic health records (EHR) in accordance with VA policies and federal regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH).
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and security of health information through rigorous data quality checks and audits.
- Implement and enforce information governance practices to protect sensitive veteran data and ensure compliance with privacy laws.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve health information issues and improve data integrity.
- Utilize health information systems (e.g., VistA) to capture, store, and retrieve health records efficiently.
- Conduct training and provide guidance to staff on health information management best practices.
- Stay updated on evolving health information technologies and regulatory changes to implement best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in health information management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information technology.
- Strong knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and other relevant federal regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
