Responsibilities
- Manage and secure electronic health records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA and VA regulations
- Oversee medical coding, indexing, and retrieval processes for 50+ daily patient records
- Conduct quarterly audits to ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory adherence
- Train staff on privacy protocols and record-keeping best practices
- Coordinate with clinical teams to resolve documentation discrepancies within 24 hours
- Implement retention policies for sensitive veteran health information
- Generate compliance reports for federal oversight agencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required
- 3+ years of medical records management experience in healthcare
- Proficiency in VistA EHR system or similar federal health IT platforms
- Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and VA record-keeping standards
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume healthcare environment
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain VA security clearance
