The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Federal Pension Specialist to join our dynamic team in Arlington, Virginia. As the primary human resources agency for the Federal Government, OPM manages the Federal workforce and ensures the delivery of critical benefits services, including the management of Federal retirement programs.
In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the financial security of federal retirees by accurately processing pension applications and providing expert guidance on retirement plans. You will serve as a trusted advisor to federal employees navigating the complexities of the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). Responsibilities
- Pension Administration: Review, process, and authorize federal pension claims and retirement applications to ensure compliance with OPM regulations and Federal laws.
- Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for federal employees and retirees, answering complex inquiries regarding retirement eligibility, annuities, and survivor benefits.
- Calculations & Analysis: Perform accurate calculations for retirement annuities, cost-of-living adjustments (COLA), and survivor annuities based on precise data inputs.
- Compliance Monitoring: Monitor federal retirement accounts to ensure accurate record-keeping and adherence to OPM policies and procedures.
- Policy Interpretation: Interpret and apply Federal retirement policies, providing guidance to agency HR offices and employees on plan administration.
- System Management: Utilize OPM's automated systems to update employee records and maintain the integrity of the national pension database.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of professional experience in retirement planning, financial analysis, pension administration, or federal human resources.
- Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and/or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS).
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with federal HR information systems (e.g., eOPF, iRA).
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in data entry and calculation to minimize errors in pension disbursements.
