Responsibilities
- Plan Administration: Oversee the daily administration of the City's defined benefit pension plans, ensuring accurate member data and contribution processing.
- Actuarial Reporting: Collaborate with external actuaries to prepare annual valuations, funding reports, and financial projections for pension plans.
- Compliance Management: Monitor changes in government pension laws (e.g., CalPERS, CalSTRS) and ensure all reporting meets strict regulatory standards.
- Member Services: Respond to inquiries from retirees and active employees regarding pension calculations, benefits, and eligibility.
- Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to identify trends in employee demographics and retirement eligibility to optimize future planning.
- Financial Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of the annual budget for the pension fund and long-term financial planning initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, Actuarial Science, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government finance, pension administration, or actuarial analysis.
- Licensure: Professional designation such as CFA, CPA, or Enrolled Actuary (EA) is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP) and experience with ERPs or pension administration software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Proven track record of accuracy in financial reporting and data management.
