Responsibilities
- Oversee electronic health record systems (EHR) implementation and optimization in compliance with HIPAA and VA regulations
- Develop and maintain health data classification systems for clinical and administrative records
- Conduct audits to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance
- Train staff on health information management best practices and documentation standards
- Coordinate with IT and clinical teams to resolve system interoperability issues
- Manage retention and destruction schedules for health records per federal guidelines
- Analyze health data trends to support quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required
- Minimum 3 years' experience in healthcare data management
- Expertise in EHR systems (e.g., VistA, Epic)
- Knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and VA record-keeping standards
- Strong analytical skills with attention to regulatory compliance
- Experience managing health data privacy and security protocols
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA security clearance
