Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repair of public streets, sidewalks, curbs, and storm drains to ensure community safety and accessibility.
- Seasonal Operations: Execute snow and ice removal, salting, and sanding operations during winter months to maintain roadways and parking areas.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy machinery and light trucks, including dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Public Works Support: Assist in landscaping, graffiti removal, and general clean-up of public parks and rights-of-way.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency service requests and weather-related damage, prioritizing public safety and timely restoration.
- Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations, traffic control standards, and City of Omaha policies while performing duties.
- Inventory Management: Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of tools and equipment to ensure readiness for daily operations.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in public works, landscaping, construction, or general maintenance is preferred but not mandatory; on-the-job training provided.
- License: Valid Class C Nebraska Driverβs License (CDL preferred but not required for all positions).
- Physical Demands: Ability to perform physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude, knowledge of traffic control signs, and the ability to read a tape measure.
- Soft Skills: Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
