Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of sewer lines, water mains, and storm drains.
- Operate and maintain heavy municipal equipment, including backhoes, dump trucks, and jackhammers.
- Inspect infrastructure for signs of wear, damage, or code violations to ensure public safety.
- Clear debris from rights-of-way and assist in snow and ice removal during winter months.
- Follow strict safety protocols and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations at all times.
- Collaborate with other city departments and contractors on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Complete daily logs and report equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in public works, construction, or utilities maintenance is preferred but not mandatory.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly and work in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools is a plus.
- Willingness to undergo a drug screen and background check.
