Responsibilities
- Operate sanitation trucks and collection equipment in assigned NYC borough zones
- Perform residential/commercial waste collection following designated routes and schedules
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance procedures
- Enforce recycling compliance through public education and enforcement
- Respond to emergency sanitation requests during extreme weather events
- Maintain accurate records of collection activities and service logs
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams for special event cleanup operations
Qualifications
- Valid New York State Commercial Driver's License (Class B)
- Minimum 1 year experience in waste management or heavy equipment operation
- OSHA 10-hour certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly and work in all weather conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Pass background check and pre-employment physical examination
- Knowledge of NYC recycling regulations and waste stream management
- Strong communication skills for public interactions during collection
