Responsibilities
- Administer defined-benefit pension plans for 50,000+ public employees across state agencies
- Ensure strict compliance with ERISA, IRS codes, Tennessee Retirement Systems statutes, and GASB standards
- Conduct complex benefit calculations, member service requests, and retirement counseling sessions
- Analyze financial data and actuarial reports to recommend plan adjustments and funding strategies
- Oversee pension fund investments, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Develop educational materials and workshops for employees transitioning to retirement
- Collaborate with external auditors, legal counsel, and investment managers during annual reviews
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in pension administration, benefits management, or retirement planning
- Professional certification (CEBS, QKA, or ASPA) or willingness to obtain within 12 months
- Expertise in ERISA, IRS 401(a), 414(e), and Tennessee Retirement Systems statutes
- Advanced proficiency in pension software (e.g., Millennium, Millennium Plus) and MS Excel
- Exceptional analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial regulations
- Strong interpersonal skills for communicating benefit details to diverse stakeholders
- Valid Tennessee driver's license and ability to travel statewide for training sessions
