Responsibilities
- Administer pension benefits for public sector employees including eligibility verification, benefit calculations, and retirement counseling
- Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations (ERISA, IRS codes) and CalPERS policies
- Analyze financial data and actuarial projections to assess pension fund health
- Develop and implement process improvements for pension administration workflows
- Collaborate with investment and accounting teams on funding strategies
- Provide technical guidance to employers and retirees on complex pension matters
- Prepare regulatory filings and comprehensive annual reports
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 3 years pension administration or benefits management experience
- Deep knowledge of retirement regulations (ERISA, IRS 401(a)) and California pension laws
- Advanced proficiency in financial software (e.g., Excel, SQL) and pension administration systems
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data interpretation and financial modeling
- Exceptional communication abilities for stakeholder education and conflict resolution
- PHR/SPHR certification or relevant professional designation preferred
