Responsibilities
- Administer and manage the City's pension plans in strict compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and California state laws
- Process retirement applications, calculate benefits, and ensure accurate disbursements for eligible employees
- Develop and maintain comprehensive pension records while preparing detailed financial reports for regulatory bodies
- Advise employees on retirement planning, eligibility criteria, and investment options through personalized consultations
- Collaborate with actuarial firms, legal counsel, and external auditors to ensure plan solvency and compliance
- Implement policy updates based on legislative changes and industry best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of pension plan administration experience with government or public sector funds
- Expert knowledge of ERISA, IRS Code 401(a), and California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., Millennium, Empower)
- Excellent communication abilities to explain complex retirement concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Professional designation (e.g., CEBS, QKA, or SPHR) highly desirable
- Valid California driver's license and ability to travel to various City facilities
