Responsibilities
- Administer pension plans including retirement calculations, benefit distributions, and member communications
- Ensure compliance with California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations and federal ERISA guidelines
- Process retirement applications, disability claims, and survivor benefit requests with precision
- Conduct financial analyses and prepare annual actuarial reports for City Council review
- Develop and implement pension policy improvements aligned with best practices
- Collaborate with HR departments to coordinate employee enrollment and exit procedures
- Manage digital pension records and maintain strict data security protocols
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of pension administration experience with public sector or CalPERS systems
- Advanced knowledge of ERISA, IRS regulations, and California pension laws
- Proficiency in pension software (e.g., CalPERS Employer Self Service) and MS Office Suite
- Certified Pension Administrator (CPA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation preferred
- Exceptional analytical skills with attention to complex financial calculations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder interactions
