Responsibilities
- Manage pension fund administration including benefit calculations, distributions, and participant communications
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) requirements
- Analyze actuarial reports and financial statements to assess fund health and sustainability
- Develop and implement pension policies aligned with city goals and legal standards
- Coordinate with external auditors, investment managers, and legal counsel during annual reviews
- Prepare comprehensive reports for city council and retirement board meetings
- Lead outreach initiatives for retirees and active employees regarding pension benefits
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of pension plan administration experience in public sector or regulated environment
- Deep knowledge of pension regulations (ERISA, IRS 401(a), CalPERS governance)
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, pension-specific systems)
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex financial and actuarial data
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or similar designation highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report presentation
