Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize state pension plans including calculation, disbursement, and record maintenance
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and North Carolina state pension statutes
- Develop and implement retirement plan policies and procedures for 15,000+ state employees
- Conduct complex financial analyses and benefit projections for pension fund sustainability
- Manage participant communications and educational programs regarding retirement planning
- Collaborate with auditors and legal counsel for regulatory compliance reporting
- Oversee pension fund investments and actuarial valuations
- Lead system upgrades for pension administration software (e.g., PeopleSoft)
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or related field required
- 5+ years of pension administration experience in government or regulated financial institutions
- SPBA, CEBS, or QKA certification strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL, and pension administration systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of ERISA, IRS 401(k) regulations, and multi-employer pension plans
- Experience with public sector retirement systems and collective bargaining agreements
- Exceptional analytical skills with attention to financial detail and compliance nuances
- Strong interpersonal abilities for stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution
