In this pivotal role, you will manage the administration of Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) programs. You will serve as a subject matter expert for employees nearing retirement, ensuring accurate processing of applications and compliance with federal regulations. Responsibilities
- Administer FERS and TSP Programs: Process retirement applications and provide comprehensive guidance on pension calculations and Thrift Savings Plan distributions.
- Employee Consultation: Conduct one-on-one consultations with federal employees to explain retirement eligibility, vesting schedules, and survivor benefits.
- Record Management: Maintain meticulous electronic and physical records of all pension applications, ensuring full compliance with privacy laws and retention policies.
- Compliance Auditing: Conduct periodic audits of pension files to identify discrepancies and ensure adherence to DoD and OPM guidelines.
- Policy Updates: Stay abreast of changes in federal retirement legislation and update internal knowledge bases and training materials accordingly.
- Issue Resolution: Investigate and resolve complex pension inquiries and appeals in a timely and professional manner.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field preferred; High school diploma with significant relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government benefits administration, pension processing, or HR.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Defense Travel System, PeopleSoft) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of FERS, CSRS, and Thrift Savings Plan rules.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Availability: Must be available to work part-time hours (approx. 20-25 hours per week) on-site.
