Responsibilities
- Administer pension plan applications, calculations, and retirement distributions for state employees
- Ensure strict compliance with ERISA, IRS regulations, and Washington state pension laws
- Provide expert guidance to retirees on benefit options, tax implications, and survivor benefits
- Conduct audits and reconciliation of pension accounts using specialized software (e.g., PeopleSoft)
- Develop educational materials and workshops on retirement planning for public sector employees
- Collaborate with HR departments across state agencies to resolve complex pension inquiries
- Monitor legislative changes and implement policy updates affecting pension administration
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or Public Administration
- 3+ years of pension administration or benefits management experience
- Advanced knowledge of ERISA, IRC Section 401(a), and state retirement systems
- Proficiency in pension software (e.g., CalPERS, NYSTRS systems) and MS Office Suite
- Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Exceptional analytical skills with attention to detail for complex financial calculations
- Strong communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work independently during weekend shifts while maintaining high standards
