Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency calls from the public, law enforcement, and other agencies
- Operate radio communication systems to dispatch police units and emergency services
- Enter and maintain accurate incident data in computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
- Provide critical information to field units during emergency situations
- Multi-task between phone calls, radio transmissions, and data entry
- Remain calm and professional under high-pressure situations
- Complete initial dispatcher training program within specified timeframe
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must pass background check and drug screening
- Ability to type 40+ words per minute
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays)
- Basic computer proficiency with willingness to learn specialized software
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old
- Valid Louisiana driver's license
