As the central communication hub for law enforcement, you will play a critical role in ensuring officer safety and effective emergency response.
We are looking for individuals with high emotional intelligence, quick decision-making skills, and a strong commitment to public service. As a Trainee, you will undergo extensive training to master emergency communications and dispatch protocols.
Responsibilities
- Emergency Response: Receive and process emergency calls (911) with high-priority accuracy, determining the nature and location of incidents.
- Dispatch Coordination: Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to assign and track police, fire, and medical units to active scenes.
- Information Relay: Provide real-time updates to field personnel regarding traffic conditions, weather, and officer status.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed, confidential logs of all calls, dispatches, and unit activities in accordance with departmental standards.
- Multi-Tasking: Monitor multiple radio frequencies and telephone lines simultaneously without losing focus or composure.
- Community Support: Assist the public with non-emergency inquiries and provide vital safety information.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Licensure: A valid Minnesota driverβs license is required (or ability to obtain one).
- Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly under pressure.
- Technology: Basic computer literacy and the aptitude to learn complex dispatch software systems.
- Character: Ability to pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
