Responsibilities
- Operate multi-line telephone systems and radio equipment to receive and dispatch emergency calls
- Accurately document incident details in computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers during medical emergencies
- Coordinate resources between field units, fire departments, and medical services
- Maintain precise records of all communications and activities
- Remain calm under pressure while handling high-stress emergency situations
- Adhere to all department policies and confidentiality protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 18 years of age at time of appointment
- U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM (verified certificate required)
- Clear criminal background and drug-free record
- Ability to pass written, oral, and psychological examinations
- Basic computer literacy and multi-tasking abilities
- Fluency in English (bilingual Spanish highly desirable)
