Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls with speed, accuracy, and empathy
- Dispatch police units using CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems
- Provide critical instructions to callers during emergencies
- Maintain detailed records of all communications and incidents
- Coordinate with multiple agencies (EMS, Fire, FBI) during complex situations
- Operate radio equipment and multi-line telephone systems
- Undergo continuous training to develop advanced dispatching skills
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Basic computer literacy and typing proficiency (30+ WPM)
- Clear verbal communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Alaska residency required within 90 days of hire
- No felony convictions or domestic violence restraining orders
