As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will start your journey in our state-of-the-art Communications Center. You will learn the intricacies of emergency call handling, radio discipline, and CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems under the guidance of seasoned veterans. Responsibilities
- Emergency Communication: Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls via multi-line telephone and radio systems, prioritizing incidents based on severity and urgency.
- Dispatch Coordination: Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units to scenes using precise location data and resource availability.
- System Management: Accurately enter and update incident reports, criminal information, and status changes into the CAD system in real-time.
- Resource Monitoring: Monitor surveillance cameras, traffic signals, and digital maps to provide dispatchers with situational awareness and tactical support.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of all calls and radio traffic in accordance with departmental policies and legal standards.
- Public Assistance: Provide information and assistance to the public regarding city services and non-emergency inquiries.
- Crisis Support: Provide dispatch support during critical incidents, maintaining composure and accuracy under high-pressure conditions.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; ability to speak clearly and concisely under stress.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer skills and typing proficiency (minimum 30-40 words per minute preferred).
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm, focused, and composed during emergency situations and high-stress periods.
- Background Check: Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal history and drug screening.
- Licensure: Valid North Carolina driverβs license with a good driving record.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
