Responsibilities
- Receive and Prioritize Calls: Efficiently answer and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems.
- Dispatch Law Enforcement: Rapidly identify the appropriate units and dispatch them to the scene with accurate location and incident details.
- Maintain Logs: Document all communications, incident reports, and unit movements in the official police log in real-time.
- Coordinate Resources: Communicate with other agencies, hospitals, and emergency services to facilitate mutual aid and medical response.
- Customer Service: Provide calm, clear, and professional instructions to the public during high-stress situations.
- Trainee Duties: Shadow senior dispatchers, complete classroom instruction, and shadow field units to learn radio procedures.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Prior experience in customer service, call centers, or military dispatch is highly preferred but not strictly required for the Trainee position.
- License: Valid Driver’s License required; a valid Hawaii Driver’s License is preferred.
- Clean Record: No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor offenses. Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Technical: Basic computer literacy and ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
