As a Police Dispatcher, you will serve as the vital link between the public and emergency responders. You will manage critical communications, ensuring that officers, fire personnel, and medical teams receive the information they need to save lives and protect property.
Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming 911 and non-emergency calls efficiently and accurately, assessing the severity of the situation.
- Dispatch Units: Coordinate the deployment of law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to incidents based on location and resource availability.
- Manage Communication Logs: Maintain detailed records of all calls, dispatches, and unit activities using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Roadside Assistance: Provide timely information and support to citizens, including traffic directions and community assistance.
- Monitor Radio Systems: Constantly monitor radio frequencies to stay informed about ongoing incidents and unit status.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: No prior dispatch experience is required for the Trainee position; on-the-job training provided.
- Skills: Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) and excellent verbal communication abilities.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Background: Must pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal history and drug screening.
- License: Valid North Carolina Driverβs License required.
