Job Summary
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will be the vital link between the public and emergency response teams. You will receive on-the-job training to master call-taking, dispatching protocols, and radio communication.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units to the scene.
- Enter and update incident information into CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems accurately.
- Maintain constant communication with field units via radio to ensure they have the latest information.
- Provide critical safety instructions to callers before help arrives.
- Monitor alarm systems and security feeds for the city.
- Collaborate with other dispatchers and supervisors during high-volume periods.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Pass a background check, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
