Responsibilities
- Receive and Prioritize Calls: Answer emergency (911) and non-emergency lines with speed and accuracy, prioritizing life-threatening situations.
- Coordinate Response Units: Dispatch police, fire, and EMS units efficiently using the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide Emergency Instructions: Give critical life-saving instructions to callers until responders arrive on the scene.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document all calls, incidents, and unit movements in the department database.
- Monitor Systems: Keep a constant watch on police radio frequencies and traffic signals to assist with traffic control.
- Customer Service: Maintain a professional and calm demeanor when dealing with distressed or angry members of the public.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with field officers and other dispatchers during shifts to ensure seamless operations.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in customer service, call centers, or military dispatch is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) and proficiency with computers.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over a radio.
- Stress Management: Ability to remain calm and focused under high-pressure and stressful conditions.
- Availability: Must be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or possess valid permanent residency status.
