Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer 911 and non-emergency lines with accuracy and empathy, assessing the urgency of each situation.
- Unit Dispatch: Coordinate the deployment of law enforcement, fire, and medical units to the correct location in real-time.
- System Management: Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to maintain accurate logs, status updates, and incident reports.
- Information Relay: Provide critical information to responding officers and citizens, ensuring they have the details needed for safe operations.
- Multi-Tasking: Manage multiple communications simultaneously while prioritizing urgent requests effectively.
- Collaboration: Communicate seamlessly with other city agencies and support units during large-scale incidents or special events.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- License: Valid California Class C Driver's License and a clean driving record.
- Typing: Ability to type at least 35 words per minute (WPM) (a typing test may be administered during the hiring process).
- Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over radio frequencies.
- Availability: Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Background: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical exam, and psychological evaluation.
