Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch appropriate personnel, and maintain accurate call logs
- Operate multi-line telephone systems, radio equipment, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software
- Provide critical information to first responders and maintain situational awareness during incidents
- Remain calm under pressure while processing multiple simultaneous communications
- Adhere to strict confidentiality protocols and departmental procedures
- Complete comprehensive training programs to achieve full dispatcher certification
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM with 95% accuracy
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn specialized dispatch software
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to de-escalate tense situations
- Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification preferred but not required for trainees
