Responsibilities

  • Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls with a calm, professional, and compassionate demeanor.
  • Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to scenes utilizing the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate radio logs and written records of all incidents, unit movements, and officer status.
  • Provide critical information, directions, and instructions to first responders to ensure officer and citizen safety during active incidents.
  • Monitor police department radio frequencies for unit availability, status updates, and officer needs in real-time.
  • Assist in the completion of required training modules and certification programs to become a fully certified Police Dispatcher.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or coursework in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
  • U.S. Citizenship and a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Ability to type at least 35 words per minute accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to remain composed under extreme pressure.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the 24/7 dispatch schedule.
  • No felony convictions; a thorough background investigation and medical exam will be required.
