Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communication plans for city departments and initiatives
- Manage media relations, press conferences, and public inquiries
- Create compelling content for digital platforms, reports, and public campaigns
- Coordinate crisis communications and emergency response messaging
- Analyze public sentiment and adjust communication strategies accordingly
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging
- Supervise communications staff and manage departmental budgets
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public/government communications
- Proven expertise in crisis communications and media relations
- Strong writing/editing skills with portfolio of published work
- Experience managing social media platforms for government entities
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
- Knowledge of California Public Records Act and open meeting laws
