Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnosis, and repair on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components of municipal vehicles and heavy machinery.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose mechanical issues to prevent breakdowns and ensure fleet reliability.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all work performed, including parts inventory and labor hours.
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Public Works team to prioritize repairs and respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Technical certification or trade school diploma in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in heavy equipment or fleet maintenance.
- Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a strong plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Physically capable of lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and working in various weather conditions.
