This role requires physical stamina and technical skills in equipment operation, maintenance, and repair. You'll work outdoors in all weather conditions while supporting essential municipal services that impact 500,000+ residents.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain city vehicles, heavy machinery, and specialized equipment (e.g., street sweepers, snow plows, backhoes)
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on public facilities, parks, and transportation infrastructure
- Respond to emergency situations including weather-related incidents and public safety hazards
- Follow OSHA safety protocols and municipal compliance standards
- Document work activities using digital systems and maintain equipment logs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for coordinated infrastructure projects
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement
- Minimum 2 years experience in equipment operation or facility maintenance
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, welding, and small engine repair
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Nebraska residency required within 90 days of hire
