Responsibilities
- Oversee the allocation and strategic management of the state pension fund budget, ensuring optimal investment returns.
- Analyze complex financial data to forecast state revenue and expenditures related to retirement benefits.
- Prepare high-level financial reports for the Governorâs Office and the State Legislature.
- Ensure strict compliance with state financial regulations, CalPERS guidelines, and federal reporting standards.
- Collaborate with agency heads to optimize pension plan participation and funding strategies.
- Conduct audits and risk assessments on financial projects to safeguard state assets.
- Train and mentor junior staff on government accounting standards and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelorâs degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (Masterâs degree preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Financial Manager (CFM) designation.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in government finance or public sector accounting.
- Deep understanding of California Public Employeesâ Retirement System (CalPERS) regulations and processes.
- Proficiency in financial modeling software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to communicate complex financial concepts to non-technical stakeholders and policymakers.
