Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of municipal infrastructure, including water mains, sewer lines, and street lighting systems.
- Operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment, such as backhoes, dump trucks, and trenchers, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and hydraulic issues on public works vehicles and tools.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to implement infrastructure improvement projects and ensure code compliance.
- Respond to emergency service calls related to water main breaks or sewer backups during inclement weather or peak demand periods.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance schedules.
- Adhere to all OSHA safety standards and city policies to ensure a hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required; vocational training or technical certification in mechanical or civil engineering is a plus.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in municipal public works, construction, or related field.
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with proper endorsements is required.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing, excavation, and basic electrical systems.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a crew.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
