Responsibilities
- Administer Pension Plans: Oversee the daily operations of state-sponsored pension plans, ensuring accurate record-keeping, fund management, and timely disbursements.
- Ensure Compliance: Ensure all pension activities strictly adhere to federal (ERISA) and state government regulations, conducting regular internal audits.
- Retiree Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for retirees and stakeholders regarding benefit inquiries, claims processing, and account reconciliations.
- Data Analysis: Utilize actuarial data and financial software to forecast liabilities and ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the pension fund.
- Policy Management: Stay abreast of changes in government pension laws and update internal policies and procedures accordingly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the HR and Payroll departments to coordinate data transfer and resolve complex benefit discrepancies.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in pension administration, government benefits, or actuarial science.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically advanced Excel functions, and experience with state government HRIS or payroll systems.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of ERISA, FERS, and state-specific retirement systems and compliance requirements.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders and the public.
- Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to manage large volumes of data with high accuracy and discretion.
