Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive actuarial valuations for state pension plans and prepare detailed financial reports for stakeholders.
- Ensure full compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines and state-specific pension regulations.
- Analyze economic trends and demographic data to forecast pension liabilities and funding status accurately.
- Collaborate with external actuaries and financial advisors to recommend optimal funding strategies.
- Prepare executive-level presentations and documentation for the Board of Trustees and legislative committees.
- Maintain and update actuarial assumptions, methodologies, and system records.
- Assist in the administration of the state pension plan, including member inquiries and plan audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension plan valuation, public sector finance, or actuarial consulting.
- Actuarial designation (FSA or ASA) is strongly preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Excel, SQL, and actuarial modeling software (e.g., Milliman, Moody's RMS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
