Responsibilities
- Administer defined benefit pension plans including benefit calculations, eligibility verifications, and retirement processing
- Ensure strict compliance with federal/state pension regulations (ERISA, IRS, CalPERS) and internal governance policies
- Manage participant communications including retirement counseling, plan education materials, and annual statements
- Conduct comprehensive audits and reconciliations of pension fund accounts and financial records
- Collaborate with investment teams to analyze funding ratios and recommend contribution strategies
- Develop and implement process improvements for pension administration workflows
- Prepare comprehensive reports for the Pension Board and City Council
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of pension plan administration experience with public sector plans
- Deep expertise in ERISA, IRS 415/401(k) regulations, and CalPERS governance
- Advanced proficiency in pension administration software (e.g., PeopleAdmin, UltiPro)
- CPA, CFA, or CEBS certification preferred
- Proven ability to interpret complex pension legislation and apply to real-world scenarios
- Exceptional analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and forecasting
- Strong interpersonal skills for stakeholder management and sensitive member communications
