Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end administration of state pension plans, including eligibility verification, contribution processing, and benefit calculations.
- Conduct thorough audits of pension records and contribution data to ensure 100% accuracy and regulatory compliance with ERISA and Texas Government Code.
- Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries from retirees, beneficiaries, and agency partners regarding pension status and policy interpretation.
- Analyze complex payroll and retirement data to identify trends, resolve discrepancies, and recommend process improvements for efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources and Finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll and pension systems.
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports for state auditors and legislative oversight committees.
- Stay updated on changes in state and federal pension laws to ensure the agency remains in full compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits management, or actuarial support within a government or large corporate setting.
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) and Texas public retirement laws.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP), and experience with HRIS or payroll software (e.g., SAP, Workday).
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and financial statements.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Must pass a background check and possess the ability to obtain a Texas state government security clearance.
