Role Overview:
You will be responsible for the end-to-end administration of pension plans, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while providing exceptional service to public employees. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the retirement security of thousands of Californians.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of pension calculations, including member contributions, service credits, and benefit disbursements.
- Ensure strict compliance with ERISA regulations and California Government Code requirements regarding retirement plans.
- Analyze complex financial datasets to generate accurate quarterly reports for the Board of Trustees and auditors.
- Act as the primary liaison for high-level inquiries regarding retirement eligibility, survivor benefits, and vested interest calculations.
- Collaborate with IT departments to upgrade and maintain the pension database systems for maximum security and efficiency.
- Conduct internal audits to identify discrepancies in payroll data and pension accruals.
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops for new staff and members on pension policy updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in pension administration, government benefits, or actuarial science.
- Strong working knowledge of public sector retirement systems and relevant government compliance laws.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP) and financial reporting software.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS) designation is highly desirable.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex legislative changes and apply them to pension calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and integrity.
