Responsibilities
- Plan Administration: Oversee the daily operations and administration of state pension plans, ensuring accurate processing of member data, contributions, and benefit calculations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and interpret federal and state laws (including ERISA and Texas Government Code) to ensure all pension activities remain fully compliant.
- Data Analysis: Perform complex financial modeling and trend analysis to assess the long-term solvency and health of pension funds.
- Member Services: Serve as a subject matter expert for inquiries regarding retirement eligibility, benefit calculations, and plan provisions, ensuring high-quality member support.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports for internal stakeholders, executive leadership, and the public, translating complex financial data into actionable insights.
- Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in current procedures and implement automation or workflow improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field required. Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or public sector financial management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in advanced data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, Macros) and SQL. Experience with ERISA and state retirement systems is highly desirable.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to maintain accuracy in high-volume data processing and documentation.
- State Government: Prior experience working within a state government agency is a strong plus.
