Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies for city departments and major initiatives
- Serve as primary media liaison, pitching stories and responding to press inquiries
- Manage crisis communications protocols during emergencies and public controversies
- Oversee digital content creation across city websites, social media, and newsletters
- Produce official statements, press releases, and executive communications
- Analyze public sentiment and adjust messaging strategies accordingly
- Coordinate with elected officials on public-facing announcements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of government or public sector communications experience
- Proven crisis management and media relations expertise
- Advanced proficiency in CMS platforms, SEO, and digital analytics
- Valid California driver's license with clean driving record
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
