As a key member of our urban planning team, you'll collaborate with cross-departmental stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to develop innovative solutions that balance economic development with environmental sustainability and social equity. Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive neighborhood revitalization projects including zoning updates, land use planning, and infrastructure improvements
- Develop and implement equitable housing policies to expand affordable housing opportunities across Detroit's diverse communities
- Analyze demographic and economic data to inform evidence-based planning decisions and policy recommendations
- Facilitate community engagement sessions and public hearings to gather input and ensure inclusive planning processes
- Prepare detailed planning reports, environmental impact statements, and grant applications
- Collaborate with engineering, transportation, and parks departments on integrated development strategies
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local planning regulations and ordinances
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field with 5+ years of progressive planning experience
- Valid Michigan Professional Planner certification (AICP) preferred
- Proven expertise in zoning laws, land use regulations, and urban design principles
- Advanced proficiency in GIS software, AutoCAD, and planning analytics tools
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex information to diverse audiences
- Strong project management experience with ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- Demonstrated commitment to equity-focused planning and community engagement
- Valid Michigan driver's license with clean driving record
