Wake County Government is urgently hiring a skilled IT Systems Administrator to ensure the reliability and security of our critical public infrastructure. We are looking for a dedicated professional to lead our technical initiatives and support our diverse workforce.
Position Overview:
As part of our IT team, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation, administration, and maintenance of local and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN) and server hardware. This is a high-impact role that requires a proactive approach to system management and user support.

Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and manage network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues.
- Implement and maintain disaster recovery and backup systems.
- Monitor system performance and ensure 99.9% uptime for critical services.
- Collaborate with vendors to manage IT contracts and service level agreements.
- Conduct regular security audits and patch management to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Mentor junior IT staff and document technical procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in systems administration or network engineering.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator are highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical staff.
