Responsibilities
- Oversee Pension Administration: Manage the processing and verification of retirement applications and pension benefit calculations for eligible state employees.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure all pension activities comply with state statutes, federal regulations (ERISA), and agency policies through regular internal and external audits.
- Employee Support: Serve as a subject matter expert for employees regarding eligibility, vesting periods, and pension plan options.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate financial statements and reports regarding pension fund performance and liabilities for state auditors and stakeholders.
- System Management: Maintain and update records in the state's pension management software and coordinate with IT for system improvements.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Public Administration, Business, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in government benefits administration, human resources, or financial planning with a focus on retirement systems.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite and experience with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) is mandatory.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of state and federal labor laws regarding retirement and pension plans.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical staff.
