Responsibilities
- Manage Pension Administration: Oversee the daily processing of pension applications, benefit calculations, and fund disbursements for state retirees.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply state and federal laws (such as ERISA) to ensure all pension plans adhere to current regulations.
- Conduct Audits: Perform internal audits of pension records to identify discrepancies and prevent fraud or errors in benefit payments.
- Client Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for retirees and beneficiaries, providing clear explanations of pension benefits and eligibility requirements.
- Data Analysis: Analyze actuarial data and demographic trends to forecast future liabilities and adjust funding strategies accordingly.
- Report Generation: Prepare detailed reports for state auditors, the legislature, and executive leadership regarding the health of pension funds.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or Public Administration required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, actuarial science, or public sector finance.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions) and experience with ERISA/State Retirement Information Systems.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of state retirement laws, tax implications, and pension funding formulas.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to manage large volumes of data with 100% accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively explain complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders.
