Responsibilities
- Advocate for Veterans: Provide expert guidance and assistance to veterans and their families regarding eligibility for state and federal benefits, including VA disability claims, education, and healthcare.
- Case Management: Conduct intake interviews, review medical and military records, and prepare necessary documentation for claims submissions with precision and attention to detail.
- Weekend Operations: Manage the front desk and service counter operations on Saturdays and Sundays, ensuring a welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Department of Defense, VA representatives, and other state agencies to streamline the benefits process for Nebraska veterans.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case files in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Community Outreach: Represent the department at local community events and veteran organizations to raise awareness of available resources.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Social Work, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in case management, customer service, or administrative support within a government or non-profit organization.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with VA regulations, federal disability laws, and Nebraska state government procedures is highly desirable.
- Availability: Must be available to work weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) on a rotating or fixed schedule.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex regulations into plain language.
- Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new case management software quickly.
