Responsibilities
- Monitor inmate activities and enforce facility regulations to ensure security and compliance
- Conduct routine searches, inspections, and headcounts to prevent contraband
- Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and medical incidents with appropriate protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, reports, and inmate behavior
- Operate security systems, control rooms, and perimeter surveillance equipment
- Transport inmates between facilities and court appearances following strict procedures
- Collaborate with healthcare and rehabilitation staff to support inmate welfare programs
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; college degree preferred
- Minimum 21 years of age with U.S. citizenship and valid driver's license
- Pass extensive background check, polygraph, and drug screening
- Completion of certified correctional officer training program
- Ability to obtain DC government security clearance
- Strong conflict resolution skills and crisis management abilities
- Physical fitness to meet job requirements including running, climbing, and restraint techniques
- Experience in security, law enforcement, or military service highly valued
