Responsibilities
- Assist in Pension Processing: Support the team in the data entry, verification, and processing of pension contribution records and retirement benefit calculations for state employees.
- Member Services: Provide general information and assistance to retirees and state employees regarding pension eligibility, status updates, and benefit inquiries.
- Compliance & Documentation: Review incoming pension applications and supporting documents to ensure accuracy and adherence to New York State Public Retirement Law and agency policies.
- Record Management: Organize, maintain, and secure confidential pension records and documentation within the agency's digital and physical filing systems.
- Reporting Support: Aid in the preparation of statistical reports and summaries for the State Comptroller and the Board of Trustees.
- Data Analysis: Assist in identifying discrepancies in payroll data and pension account balances and coordinate with internal departments to resolve issues.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience in a government/public sector environment).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to maintain accuracy when handling sensitive financial and personal data.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and experience with data management software or databases.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and empathetically with the public.
- Knowledge: Understanding of basic government regulations, compliance standards, and the public sector workflow is highly preferred.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible for U.S. government employment.
