Responsibilities
- Process Pension Claims: Review and verify pension applications, service records, and salary history to determine eligibility and calculate monthly benefits accurately.
- Retiree Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for retirees and their beneficiaries, answering complex inquiries regarding vesting, accrual rates, and payment schedules.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all pension calculations adhere to strict state and federal laws, including OMB Circular A-21 and state-specific pension statutes.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain comprehensive, confidential electronic and physical records of all pension transactions, ensuring data integrity and audit readiness.
- Data Analysis: Utilize Excel and pension software to analyze trends, resolve discrepancies, and generate reports for department leadership.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the HR and payroll teams to ensure seamless integration of pension data into broader state compensation systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in pension administration, benefits management, or government financial services.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and Macros) is mandatory.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Georgia state government pension systems and retirement laws is highly preferred.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial staff.
