Job Summary

The Federal Pension Administrator will be responsible for the full lifecycle of pension administration. You will serve as the subject matter expert for FERS (Federal Employees Retirement System) and CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) benefits, advising employees on retirement eligibility, survivor benefits, and medical retirements. You will work closely with payroll departments and external vendors to ensure timely and accurate processing of pension claims and monthly annuities.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and process federal pension applications, including FERS and CSRS retirement claims, ensuring strict adherence to federal guidelines.
  • Conduct detailed benefit calculations for employees nearing retirement, providing accurate estimates and counseling.
  • Review and approve medical retirements and disability applications, coordinating with medical review boards.
  • Advise federal employees on survivor benefit elections, thrift savings plans (TSP), and deferred retirement options.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records for all pension cases, ensuring data integrity across internal databases.
  • Investigate and resolve complex pension inquiries and discrepancies, escalating issues to senior management when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to ensure local compliance with changing federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Human Resources, Accounting, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits management, or federal HR.
  • Strong working knowledge of FERS, CSRS, and federal retirement regulations (OPM Handbook).
  • Proficiency with federal HRIS systems (e.g., EOP, iPERMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
