Responsibilities
- Administer Federal Pension Plans: Manage the daily operations of federal pension plans, including calculations, disbursements, and record-keeping for active and retired employees.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure all pension activities adhere to ERISA regulations, OPM guidelines, and internal government compliance standards. Conduct regular audits of pension records.
- Benefit Calculations: Perform complex actuarial calculations to determine retirement eligibility, survivor benefits, and lump-sum payouts.
- Retiree Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for retirees and beneficiaries, answering inquiries regarding vesting, payouts, and health benefits.
- System Management: Utilize federal HRIS systems (e.g., Oracle, PeopleSoft) to input data, generate reports, and track pension status.
- Policy Implementation: Assist in the implementation of new federal benefit policies and communicate changes to stakeholders effectively.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field required. Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience administering federal pension plans or similar government benefits programs.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ERISA, OPM regulations, and federal retirement systems (FERS, CSRS).
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (pivot tables, vlookups). Experience with HRIS software is a major plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Security: Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
